Diamonds Discovered...as Summer draws to a close...B^]
On Saturday afternoon...as my buddy Dave and I watched the leaves start to change colour...we found diamonds! Wine diamonds! =^P

Wine Diamonds cling to the cork of a 1990 Frick Zinfandel
There are more jewels to be found at Frick winery. There are good things going on at Frick. If you find yourself in Sonoma County, California on a weekend afternoon...you should check it out.
We've taken a bit of "end o' the summer" time to briefly disconnect from technology...and a rest from posting blog entries, but now we are right back at it. You can expect to see near daily entries for the rest of September 2008...and live updates during our imminent Nepalese adventures of Fall 2008.
The main page of SecretSpotEverest.com will go through a few changes by the end of this month to accommodate my live updates from Nepal. Those updates will be mirrored in this blog...including images and the occasional video from the Himalayas.
For those of us who generally spend our summers above the 40th parallel, this time of year allows us to witness a speedy change of seasons. The long days and short nights are about to become quite the opposite...and winter is on its way. The loons told me so...

We'll go from being able to read a book by 11pm 'daylight' (from a comfortable outdoor chair) to seeing that same snow covered seat through an icy window...as we put another log on the fire. Hmmmm...both of those scenarios sound most sensible. =^]

El Franko reflects upon the summer from a kayak on northern Alberta Secret Spot
A nice thing about Alberta at this time of year is the sweet Taber corn.

The Time Machine stops for corn
What a summer it has been! You only need to peruse past blog entries to see evidence of that! B^]

Dawa and Phill hours after coming off Denali with Megan, Roberta and the Tominator
Dawa eyes were opened wide as we all grew as fellow adventurers and friends. We formed new and exciting relationships...and enjoyed the company and support of old friends.
Dawa still says that his favorite segment of his three months of explorations of the USA was the time we had with Bill and Lil in New Mexico. It WAS pretty good. I can't wait to see those folks again! =^)

Seasons change...but the mountains we climb remain the same...serving as constant reminders that our time on this earth is relatively fleeting...so we should make the most of that time. After all, we are ultimately defined by the sum total of our experiences...not the earthly goods we acquire during our brief time on this earth.
Suffice it to say...each of us has our own journey! =^]
Speaking of journeys, our Tilman trek begins at the end of this month. Caroline, Dana, Dawa and I will be traversing Nepal from south to north and enjoying the sights, sounds and people of some very remote places. Thirty five (35) days will be lengthy time to be constantly living outside. I can't wait! =^)

Caroline and Dana get fattened up for an Adventure
By subscribing to this blog you'll be able to virtually trek and climb with us as we make our way to South Side Everest Base Camp(EBC south) again...this time via the 'long way'. We're planning on climbing Mera and Island peaks while en route to EBC south...

...and I'm planning on doing near daily updates via satellite phone/modem.
Eric at the Satellite Phone Store has set me up with some pretty custom gear that will allow for even more seamless communication from the extremely remote places we will be trekking.

Satellite Communication in a Tidy Package
Eric knows his business and you'll hear all about it (in the not-so-distant future) as he will be featured in an interview in a SecretSpot.TV podcast.
You'll see all the satellite technology in action over October and November of 2008...as well as during our 2009 SecretSpotEverest Traverse.
You'll also see some amazing medical technology being used. We can thank Medtronic for that. I enjoy the benefit of said technology every second of every day! =^]
March 2009 seems like a long time from now, but we of the SecretSpotEverest Team have a traverse of Mount Everest to look forward to next spring...so time will fly...and there's work to be done. The Seven Summits won't 'climb themselves'. =^]

Until Soon
