Trail of Blood...part 2
13 Nov, 08 - 16:49
It's Thursday evening here in Nepal...and Dawa and I are still in Namche Bazaar.
Dana, Caroline and the rest of our Secret Spot Tilman Crew are warm (and likely showered) and satisfied in Lukla. I know this because I talked to both Dana and Caroline few hours ago.

Budi on the horse...on the way to hospital.
Dawa and I spent most of today making sure Budi didn't expire...and we eventually got him onto a helicopter headed for Lukla. Budi spent last night in hospital, but was far from cured.
There was a point, this morning, where Budi was going into seizures...his eyes were rolling into the back of his head...and he was vomiting blood. Not so pretty. When he had to move he would bleed from his nose and mouth and complain of deep chest pain. Yikes!

Budi being worked over by the hospital staff.
Fortunately(not sure if that's the right word), a helicopter was scheduled to fly into Namche this afternoon. The dead body of a trekking guide who just recently(yesterday) collapsed on a trail near Namche was scheduled to be flown out...so we were able to get an alive Budi on the same flight.
As hard as it was to watch our sturdy porter suffer today...I was relieved to watch him be flown to a lower altitude and relative safety.

The dead body of the trekking guide gets in the helicopter before a barely ambulatory Budi.
Once we find a another porter on Friday morn, Dawa and I will likely walk all the way to Lukla the same day. I hope we find a healthier Budi there...and can look forward to a flight back to Kathmandu on Saturday. Time will...well...you know...
I hope you are virtually enjoying climbing in the Himalayas with us via the dispatches at www.secretspoteverest.com and/or my blog!?
If you have not subscribed...you should...right now. I invite you. =^)
Until Soon
