Sitting in front of the Mac sorting and going through 3000 odd pictures has brought forward a number of extraordinary memories of the 45 days we spent together in Nepal. We continue to sit back and think of the three of us with Dawa, Badje Namgil, Namgil, Dende and the many porters tracing portions of Tillman’s route and making our way through some of the most remote and beautiful mountain scenery found anywhere on this planet. These thoughts continue to warm our hearts especially during the exceptionally cold weather we have had here in Calgary.
Getting
back into the routine of work and western living was a bit of a chore.
The culture shock of finding ourselves in the beginning of Christmas
advertising was a bit overwhelming. It took Caroline and I well over a
month to get rid of our internal viral guests and get back into this
mad way of life over here. Although, the start of ski season has
quickly reminded me why I love this place and continue to call it home.

We have both been treated to many cups of coffee to entertain a co-workers and friends who were keen on learning about our trip. Many of them commented on blog spot and enjoyed the stories and photos, following us along the trail. A good many of them are expecting a major presentation from Caroline and I so this leads me back to sitting in front of the Mac learning I-Photo and other Mac applications, sorting through pictures.
We captured many pictures of the mountain scenery, the rice paddies, flowers, birds, and forests but most of what we have are pictures of people. Nepali people in Kathmandu, students in Gudel, and kids from most of the villages we stayed. It is this aspect of our trip that has touched us the most. It is their interest and curiosity, their openness and generosity, their ability to make a life in a hard place and yet always able to share a greeting and a smile.

It is remarkable that an idea discussed over a good Greek lunch could have resulted in such a wonderful journey and lasting memories.
Thanks for pulling this all together Phill. Our thanks also goes out to Dawa, Badje Namgil, Namgil, Dende, Prakash, and Kharel!
Until Soon,
Caroline Ang and Dana Engler
