The Big Fig!

The Lake at Pokhara and its surrounding roads

So Pokhara, Nepal is pretty interesting and peaceful. A portion of the city enjoys a spectacular lakeside view...which I plan on enjoying again. I'll save that sharing experience for a particularly captivating little Fishy. She knows who she is. =^]

The ride to Pokhara was very fast. The bus takes 6 hours...I took 3.5 hours. The mini-Time Machine is capable of howling. B^]
The cruise back was exactly that...'cruisy'. I stopped to smell the roses and admired the hard working people of this country.
One has to pay attention while on a motorcycle in this part of the World...as the videos in my previous Secret Spot Seven Summits blog entries have conveyed.

Although, I have managed to enjoy some deserted roads and breathtaking scenery. When Chris mirrors this dispatch in the blog, you can see a video of the quiet coutryside of Nepal. It's a challenge to take video with my clutch hand and ride at the same time...but you can get a good feel for what it's like to ride these roads in that configuration. Check out the walking leaf piles! =^o  Click below to view the vid!

Mini-Time Machine cruising through the countryside of Nepal.

I stopped at the Big Fig! It's a modest roadside attraction on Nepal's main highway from Kathmandu to Pokhara. I was going to stop for minutes...and minutes turned to hours...turned to Dahl Bhat. That was fortunate...as a short round of cricket with some Nepali kids and Ellie from Minneapolis...and I was famished!

White Mischief and Cricket at the Big Fig

After filling Andy the British plumber with bottles of White Mischief, I decanted him onto the bus to Kathmandu and watched a mini-hurricane descend upon the region. That was right after a bike gang left...which was amusing. There were four motley looking fellows on Enfields...trying to look as 'bad ass' as possible...all 450lbs(collectively) of them. It was fascinating to get their perspectives on the Planet...especially since they were from four different countries (South Africa, Russia, Germany, Spain). =^]

I'm not sure why I didn't capture that tempest on video...as it was very impressive. More impressive than some ocean storms I have been in...so it was absolutely spell binding. Like Nepal...there is Beauty in Chaos...as there is Beautfy in Simplicity.

A warm night by the river...as the sounds of flowing water massaged my ears...and the open road was again upon me. Caked in dust and diesel, I returned to the Kathmandu Guest House to find Dawa covered in flaking skin. He'd attempted Mera La last week(the peak that Dana, Caroline, Dawa and I summited on a perfect day in October 2008) ...and been beaten off of it by high winds and deep snow. He said it was just brutal...especially the part about one of the Danish fellows losing a couple of toes to frostbite! =^o

Tibet is still shut down...and there aren't any Everest Traverses happening...so a few groups have switched to a southside climb...and some have postponed. The weather is apparently ugly up there. We're going to be on Denali in May...after a bunch of time in Sherpa Country. I'm going to head to Dawa's birth village next week...and capture video and images of the landscape, structures and Sherpa people. These incredibly industrious people are going to do nothing but benefit from the project we are undertaking. It feels good. You'll be able to check it all out via the blog(www.phillmichael.com) and www.SherpaSchool.org.

Subscribe to the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog and you will meet the 30 or so children who will be a part of the Sherpa School...as we beam them into your environment by satellite! Let us watch them grow and prosper...together! B^)

Until Soon
