Dawa's Kids (top) Lakpa (bottom) Lakpa Gelu
I'm listening to 'I Want You' by Eryka Badu. Good stuff. It takes my mind to extremely good places. =^)
My my...it's been in an interesting day. I was going to write a dispatch about how we were waiting for the plane to Phaplu...as well as the writing of admissions examinations for Dawa's kids...AND filling out paperwork. They are about to attend and even better school. To those of you involved in helping them get an exceptional education...a big and continued 'Thank You!'...but you will have to wait another day or so for a progress report.
There is a great deal of paperwork to be filled out in Nepal. Thank you Nepali Hat Men. =^]
I've been asking Dawa what has been bothering him for the last three days...and he always shrugged it off...and said, 'nothing'. He was a combination of purple and grey...not a good aura.
He finally made a quick comment, 'you are doing so much for my family and me...'.
I suggested it he not worry about that...as it's the least I can do. I still knew that wasn't the reason for his funk.
Three days ago Dawa discovered that his nephew, Phuri, was just diagnosed with heart valve issues...and is probably in need emergency open heart surgery. I finally levered that information out of Dawa today...with the help of a nice 2000 Bordeaux.
I saw Phuri's x-ray today...and his heart is GROSSLY enlarged and he is experiencing very irregular heart beats. He's got a ridiculous amount of regurgitation happening at his Aortic valve. Sound familiar?!
(top) Phuri's Chest Xray. It's good to have a big heart...but not his kind. (bottom) Phill Michael and Dende Sherpa in July 2007
Phuri is Dawa's eldest brother's(Dende) son. He is 18 years old. Those of you who have been following our journey might remember Dende from my dispatches in July 2007?! Dende has never left the remote village of his birth...and lives at a subsistence level. If I was a person who understood envy, I would say that Dende lives an incredibly enviable life. I've shared it with him for a week...I know. =^]
Dawa says he was upset that these things have come up because HE doesn't want ME to be disappointed about leaving on our trek! CRAZY!!!!
Regardless...I'm going to swing into action and help out with that situation(go see the surgeon, etc, etc, etc, etc.)...so tomorrow I will get to re-visit a familiar clinical scene. It will be interesting to see how they deal with life and death situations in the hospitals of Nepal...
Until Soon
