Phaplu...at last! =^)

The Twin Otter at Phaplu's airport
We had to leave the comforts of the Kathmandu Guest House today...and roll onwards towards Phaplu. Our good friends, Raj and Shyam, were able to arrange our flights...with some drama...as it is difficult to get to Phaplu. Thanks again Fellows! We are very pleased to be here! =^)
The Kathmandu Guest House. That celebrated structure felt like home. What will I miss the most about her?! The warm feeling as I drive through her gates?! The comfort of her arms at night?! The way she tastes in the morning?! Her sweet sounds that still resonate in my ears and keep my spirit alive?! The hardest thing about leaving is leaving the one who loves you the most.
Well...I'm not leaving...and I never really will. There will be a 'rubber band' relationship for me with Nepal. Dawa and I need to traverse Everest when China decides we can...elements of the SherpaSchool.ORG will keep me busy for the rest of my life...and I'm sure my own future children will interact with these wonderful people. It is spellbinding to think about. I dream about it. =^)
(top) Sitting in my favorite spot at the KTMGH (middle) Kelly(L) and
Sue(R) chop it up at the KTMGH (bottom) Beth(L) Morita(R) and Phill at
Pilgrim's
Dawa, Marita and I were sipping tea at the crack of dawn today...and after a number of expected delays at the airport...we found ourselves boarding a fully loaded Twin Otter.
People complain about Lukla being a sketchy place to fly into. Try Paplu's gravel runway that sits on a bit of plateau...and you might find Lukla more sensible. One American fellow who was sitting next to me on the plane was 'white knuckling' the seat in front of him as we were landing. Was it the 270 degree banked turn that we did as we approached a sheer wall of rock...or was it the air pockets we hit just prior to landing?! It was an exciting morning that saw us eventually sitting in a little Sherpa Guest House in Sallery, Nepal. We will walk to Gorakhani over the course of the next couple of days...then we will be laying the foundations, literally, for the SherpaSchool.ORG.
Thanx, in part, to Eric at the SatellitePhoneStore.com...I'll be beaming all kinds of media from that remote part of Nepal...by satellite. Prepare to enjoy! B^)
You will also see some evidence of us using Skype via BGAN satellite modem. We can record the sessions. Download Skype (www.skype.com)... and subscribe to the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com) and you can be a part of it all. B^]
The days prior to leaving Kathmandu(KTM) were spent organizing Dawa's USA visa application, getting Phuri rigged for surgery and checking out the Social Development Centre of Nepal. I finally met the lovely and talented Sue Clark...as well as her exceptionally charming baby sister Kelly. I'll write a bit more about that visit and include images...in another dispatch...later this week. If you want to see a little bit of how Alex Mondau got us involved with the orphanage...then kindly surf your way over to www.secretspot.tv and check out Episode 3! I also connected with a lady named Beth...from Ithica, New York, USA. She is doing some NGO work in Nepal...and I'm sure you'll see more of here in these dispatches.
Phuri and Phill at the SGHHC(Heart Centre), Nepal
We tried to admit Phuri into hospital on Sunday...but he was 'triaged' out of a bed...so another attempt with be made on Wednesday. We will be keeping in daily contact with 'Team Phuri'...so that when he gets slated for surgery, we can head back to KTM to support him.
Maybe bionic hearts are going to let Phuri and I see the 22nd century?! Pessimists roll their sullen eyes...but optimists realize that this is now possible. We can all fully live and enjoy. It's not science fiction...it's real.
Imagine...all the memories one saves...like water droplets. Later they can grace my presence like a sweet, warm rain. B^)
