Another fine day in Sherpa Country! B^)
Dawa and I just did a voice dispatch via the BGAN...so if you surf over to the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com)...you can listen to it by clicking below! B^)
Batteries were charged by the sun and more kiddies came by to be a part of SherpaSchool.ORG! If I had to describe today in one word...it would be: BEAUTIFUL! =^)
We finalized the plans for material acquisition for the SherpaSchool.ORG so a nine member committee of locals is about to spring into action with their axes and shovels...and collect wood and rock for construction. The wood takes about a year to cure...which is fine...as we aren't planning on completing construction until about this time of year in 2011. You can continually check in on progress at www.SherpaSchool.ORG and/or www.PhillMichael.com

Most of the committee met at Urgen's House today and Dawa and I enjoyed centre stage as the Roxy was poured and the laughter grew to a crescendo. Potatoes had to be picked, so we were all shining at the height of it all...just prior to getting back to the manual labour.
I also satellite connected with Dr Rabindra Tamala at the Shahid Gangalal Nation Heart Center today. Phuri has been admitted...but his surgery will not happen for another week! We are going to stay up here for a few more days...and descend from this blessed land about a day before he goes into the OR.
Today, some of my own labour involved communing with the Electronics.
I often get asked what sort of communication technology I use to connect with the outside world from these incredibly remote places. I am about to tell you...
After a nice long Skype conversation by BGAN satellite modem with Eric Talman at the SatellitePhoneStore.com, I'm enjoying some hydroelectric power...Sherpa Styley! B^]
I connected with Eric via Skype (www.skype.com) with my Dell Mini Inspiron laptop...streaming through a Hughes 9201 BGAN terminal. Immarsat flew that bird that is a satellite. The service was excellent...and the video call quality was exceptional...especially considering we were using the lowest bandwidth setting available.
The future looks bright...and I predict we'll be beaming into corporate meetings from some of the most exotic places on Earth. Just like we dreamed. B^]
An HP iPaq is another useful device I always carry. I can connect to the Hughes 9201 wirelessly! I do so with the laptop and the PDA(iPaq). I've placed the satellite modem as far as 100ft away from my comm station...and it has worked well! The iPaq uses minimal battery power...and I have a custom keyboard for it...so it's great for endurance expeditions...like the Denali Freestyle Expedition!

The satellite technology allows me to connect from ANYWHERE...ANYTIME. Amazing. We live in the future...and the future is now! B^]
I'm living proof of that. =^]
Many thanks go out to the efforts of Tom Sjorgen and the people at HumanEdgeTech.com for developing some very innovative expedition power solutions. I use an HET Power 50. As I've said before...I'd be powerless without it!
Eric and I are going to communicate and see if we can capture a Skype session on video. If completed, I'll post it at the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com) at the end of this week. You can get a good feel for what we are doing.
A couple of weeks ago, we did one session while Eric was connecting with his Sprint EVO card in a Mac Book Pro (while driving through the Florida swamps)...and I was connecting via the BGAN (while eating a Sizzling Pepper Steak) at the Kathmandu Guest House. Absolutely amazing technology. B^]
The SherpaSchool.ORG will be using some of this technology as some people are crying that the end of the World is coming in 2012. Guess what...the world isn't going to end...and we are going to charge forth into the future with enthusiasm. That's just the way we roll. B^)
