Something is Cookin' in the Sherpa Kitchen!! =^P

Phuri, Urgen, Lakpa, Sani and Pemba Sherpa

It has been a culinary sort of day...on my tenth day as a vegetarian. This isn't by choice...but by necessity. There ain't no meat in these parts...no sir. =^P

Dawa had to head back to Kathmandu(KTM) today...but I soldier forth with the Sherpa porter, Phuri, and the 'tough as nails' Australian farm girl named Marita. =^]
Dawa headed back to help Team Phuri with the Phuri that needs a new heart valve. The surgery isn't until late next week in KTM...and I plan on being present for support.

We are going to leave Urgen's fairly early on Saturday morn and head for Pike (pronounced Pik-ay) Peak. I am enjoying some electricity as I type...so everything should be charged up for another Skype Video call with Eric of the SatellitePhoneStore.com . This time I will be at about 13000ft...with the Yak people. B^]

I have been making chili sauces that would burn the mouth off the smiling Sun. The ingredients are purely organic...like every other bit of food here. Life is pure here...about as pure as it gets! B^)

Even the liquor is organic. Sherpa people are known for their heavy drinking and hard working hands. 'Sherpa' means 'people from the East'. It should mean potato eaters...as that is a MAJOR staple of their diet. I've grown to appreciate every single thing that comes out of the Sherpa kitchen...even the salt tea. =^|

We shared some salt tea with yet another beautiful little family who came by today to be a part of the SherpaSchool.ORG. Pemba Sherpa (the sixth one I have met) came by with her young children, Lakpa and Sani. You will see the kids featured on the 'students' page at SherpaSchool.ORG...later this month.

They get the award for being the most thoroughly scrubbed Sherpa in the district...with the easiest smiles. I was also grinning from ear to ear when I saw what was going into the wok today...

Urgen made some Sherpa Pop Corn! It was truly awesome to inhale those huge and tasty kernels. Also a good source of protein! =^P

Sherpa spend a great deal of time socializing in their open hearth kitchens. The kingdom of Dahl Bhat! I'm going to miss Urgen singing and praying while spinning a hand mani. You'll see some video of that in an episode of SecretSpot.TV...when Chris and I finally get together and shoot some more podcasts. It will be worth the wait! =^)

Speaking of video...there should be another being posted late this weekend or so. If you are a subscriber to the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com) ...you will be notified, by email, as soon as the next video capture of one of our BGAN Skype video-conferences is included in a blog entry. We are on the cutting edge of technology and enjoying the view. B^)

Hey...would you like to hear a good song that has been in my head all day?! When Chris mirrors this dispatch in the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com)...the song will be included.  Click below to listen!
