From Shangri La to the Kathmandu Guest House...B^]

Scenes from Secret Spot Sherpa Country, Nepal in May 2009

Well...I'm back at the Kathmandu Guest House(KTMGH) after eighteen days in remote Nepal. I already miss the people, food and culture of Sherpa Country...but KTM isn't too bad either. =^)

I'm pretty sure I heard 'Welcome Back!' (accompanied by huge smiles) from about 25 people in my first hour of being at the KTMGH...so I DID feel very welcome and relaxed. B^]

We made it to Phaplu in decent time...after a couple days walk from Urgen's House. Every step away from there felt a little premature, but fortunately I'll be back. What I mean by 'premature' is that I wasn't ready to leave Shangri La. As I have mentioned numerous times, life is full of purity and truth in Sherpa Country...and one's health flourishes even more than usual. It's out of this World! B^]

Making BGAN connections at THE Monastery in remote Nepal

The SherpaSchool.ORG is a reality in the making...and that feels very satisfying. It was great to connect with Sherpa folk, old and young, in Salleri and hear their feedback about the new institution in their district. Everybody is grateful, hopeful and excited...as am I =^)

Let's go back to THE Monastery for a moment...

On May 4th, Eric Talman and I connected by Skype for what we now call a SkypeVidCon. We are still experimenting with the technology and video capturing capabilities. When Chris mirrors this dispatch in the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com) you can view a video (VidCap) of the BGAN satellite modem connection we made. Eric was in Florida and I was at THE Monastery in remote Nepal enjoying an exceptionally clear morning at over 12000ft! B^]   Click below to view!!

I flew some prayer flags as well. I encourage YOU to leave a comment for this blog entry and I will pool the comments...randomly draw one...then send those same prayer flags to the lucky individual. The winner has to be a blog subscriber as well...so SUBSCRIBE! =^]

We've got subscribers on six continents...so it will be interesting to see what path these flags take?!?! I'll let YOU know in later May.

Their path could end at YOUR house...if you leave a comment for this entry...=^]

(top) A lucky Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com) subscriber will soon own these prayer flags. SUBSCRIBE! (bottom) Lakpa and Nuri in their Sherpa Kitchen in Gorakhani

Eric and I are going to make another BGAN to BGAN connection this coming week. I'll be at an ancient and exotic spot near Kathmandu...while Eric soaks up the Sun in Puerto Rico. Stay tuned for that! B^)

It's time to get back on the Mini-Time Machine and wheel over to the Shahid Gangalal Nation Heart Center to check up on Post Op Phuri. Apparently he is ambulatory and smiling. I brought some cheese from his mother's kitchen for him. It still smells and tastes like the wood smoke of a Sherpa kitchen. =^P

Until Soon
Phill =^)

Phill, I thought of you as we were in Boston's Gillette Stadium with the Dalai Lama. Travel well!

Yo Mr. M your presence in North America is sorely missed but your activities in Asia are exponentially more valid. Sorry I never hit the Skype lottery with you but I am sure we can recoup that loss in the near future.

I can't express how awesome it is to be able to track you via the interwebs and vicariously experience your journeys and your PHILLanthropy.

Safe and happy trails my friend. I hope to see you soon.
