Phill prepares for Adventures in Baja
Sooooo...now the days, in the northern hemisphere, are getting longer! What is the winter solstice you might (hopefully not) ask?! Check it out with your Google box. You'll be an even more powerful and beautiful a person...as a result of your (possibly) newly acquired knowledge! =^]

Acquiring the topographical maps in Tijuana
As Autumn considered retiring for the year, Steve and I had to don our leather chaps for our foray into the mountains of Baja California Norte, Mexico. I should have brought a snow shovel. We witnessed the onset of winter via a blizzard...and young Steve was introduced to the hardships of winter camping. Que bueno! B^)

'Extreme Precaution'...Indeed!

Steve enjoys the warmth of the fire at 8500ft (2591m)
We'll do a dispatch about our time at El Picacho del Diablo (The Peak of the Devil)...once we all virtually finish climbing Mera Peak (6476m/21241ft) on the 2008 Secret Spot Tilman Trek Reloaded. Soon it will happen...B^]
Dana Engler just sent a few recent images and an update from Engler World:

A typical early Autumn sunset on the West Coast of Canada
Summer has long come to a close. It was a great summer and Caroline and I finished out the race season by supporting our friends at the Ironman Canada competition in Penticton, British Columbia. We also took in some additional training in Wilderness First Aid and Backcountry Navigation. The end of summer was celebrated by my son Andrew and I with a trip to the west coast of Vancouver Island where we hired a boat to drop us off on an isolated island overlooking the Pacific ocean. Just us and the resident wolves. Very nice =D

Wolf Tracks on the Canadian West Coast
Winter has officially arrived here in the Canadian Rockies. The backcountry skiing so far has been great with lots of early fresh snow.

Jumbo Hut in the Canadian Rockies
We have many ski trips confirmed at locations including; the Wapta Ice Fields, Rogers Pass, the Stanley Mitchell hut in Yoho National Park, and plans in the making for various ski mountaineering and tours for this spring.

Skating on a Cold Day at Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada
The weekend before last was very cold and our planned ski outing was postponed. The temperature that morning was -31 with a wind chill of -36C. Very much out of the pleasurable range. However this was mild compared to Phill's home town where the wind-chill was -59C. Now that is cold even for an old frost bitten Canadian boy!
It was a good weekend to continue pouring over the pictures and video from last years expedition with Phill.

High Camp on Mera Peak (19000ft/5800m)
We experienced so much on the 2008 Secret Spot Tilman Trek that reviewing the pictures and video clips brought back all the sights, sounds, and even a few smells.

Ang Dawa Sherpa on the central summit (21241ft/6476m) of Mera Peak
I'm missing Nepal and will return one day soon...

Indeed...Dana will return to Nepal! If not more immediately...he'll be with us on the Secret Spot Tilman Trek Mustang. We'll be doing an epic journey through one of the most primitive and remote parts of Nepal. I can't wait...but I will have to! B^>
We've got plenty of ground to cover prior to that...so why not vicariously enjoy some previous expeditions by subscribing to the Secret Spot Seven Summits blog (www.phillmichael.com). I can't remember what YOU said you were waiting for?! The Secret Spot 'End of the World' party is happening at an undisclosed location...two years from now. YOU have got a great deal of ground to cover before that too! =^]
I'm wishing ALL of YOU the Best of THE Season...and a prosperous and exciting 2010! Hopefully you'll be climbing to new heights with us! B^)
Until Soon
Phill =^)
