Tempus Fugit!
Like Don Quixote...our quests are numerous...and our desire to inspire is intense. Each of us has our own challenges and fears...and each of us has our own goals. If we share in our respective successes, we all benefit...and the positive energy flows. =^]

I've been digging through the archives and enjoying quite a few chuckles...thanks to videos and images of old. In the closing years of the last millennium, I shot most of my footage with an old Sony Mavica that stored files on a 3.5 inch floppy disks. 1.5 Megabytes or storage to disk! =^o
Here's a vintage clip in the blog mirror of this dispatch...that just caused a massive smile to spread across my face! =^)

That was only 10 years ago. All sorts of technologies have improved drastically since then. Digital media has become so advanced that it's shocking (just see the movie Avatar!)...expedition technology (check out HumanEdgeTech.com, SatellitePhoneStore.com and Inmarsat.com) now allows anyone to virtually climb to summits in the most remote parts of the World...and medical technology continues to improve quality of life and alleviate pain.
Today...I am celebrating the 7th anniversary of my Medtronic Freestyle implant. I am eternally grateful to all the people who have developed and implanted such therapies. We all need to express gratitude to the visionaries who have developed medical technologies that extend life. What are the limitations?! There aren't any. Who do they affect...either directly or indirectly?! Everybody.
I suppose that ultimately we all move onto the next phase and can only hope that we will continually help and impart wisdom, we have gained from experience, to those who inherit the Earth from us.

I remember sitting in Dr Modry's office in the early days of February 2003...post op...discussing how future procedures would make the surgical process much shorter. Flash forward to a press release of a few days ago:
'Medtronic Receives FDA Approval for First Replacement Heart Valve Implanted Without Surgery'
Download the press release as a PDF here!

Phuri Sherpa enjoys his new lease on life in May 2009!
I'd like to think that these medical technologies, that I have referred to, will comfortably see me into the 22nd century. The same goes for Dawa's nephew Phuri Shepra! Anything is possible in this beautiful world of science FACT that we live in. We are living the 'science fiction' I read about as a child...and we've become a global community. The future is right now! I recommend embracing it. B^)

Caroline Ang and Bajee Namgell just above Khare, Nepal (at approx. 16400ft) with Mera Peak (21241ft/6476m) in the background
I suppose we should continue looking into the recent past and make our way up Mera Peak, Nepal on the 2008 Secret Spot Tilman Trek?! Pictures say a thousand words...don't they?! B^]
We haven't quite got the video edited and uploaded...but we will soon. The panorama from the summit of Mera Peak (21241ft/6476m) was outstanding.

We marched up to Mera La today...and as you might expect...it's cold at 17500ft!

Cruising across Mera Glacier
I had an awesome day and my brain feels like a peach swimming in champagne. It must be all the nice emails I'm getting. =^)

Mera Peak reveals itself (Mera Central (21241ft/6476m) is just below the small '*'
Because of the length of the grueling days we have ahead of us, I might not be sharing as many of my thoughts as usual...but I will still endeavor to send daily images...so you can continue to virtually climb with us. B^)

Caroline Ang , Dana Engler and Phill Michael enjoy an evening at Mera La, Nepal (17,500ft/5335m)
Until Soon

Dear Phill,
Just couldn't let Jan 29th go by without sending you acknowledgements of your Freestyle birthday! The world is a better place for you in it and I am grateful. To that end, I have to share a "Path to Peace" quote. It resounds of you and your Sherpa School ---http://www.amtbweb.org/tchquote.php
With much joy and gratitude, CVH
