Marching Fo(u)rth to the Summit of Mera Peak - Tilman Trek Reloaded

There are a number of Secret Spot Seven Summits blog subscribers who celebrated their birthdays (birthdazzze?!) on March 4th. It's the only day of the year that is a command. How fitting. They have been with us since the beginning of the blog...which was launched a little over two years ago. Time...it does fly!

Here's a collage of images from yesteryear of some of those folks I have been fortunate enough to personally connect with.

Snoozin' and Phill  refueling in Kanadia in Sept 2008

I watched Jill (the bday girl) and Dawa chow down at the Kathmandu Guest House in late June 2007

Linda, Steve (the bday boy) and Phill relax at a Secret Spot in Tennesee in Nov 2006

I'm raising a massive mug of cool, clear water in their honour...and wish them heart felt best wishes to live long and prosper. As Bill Frick reminded me on a 2003 hot summer day in Sonoma County...while we were crushing grapes: 'Birthdays are good days for reflection'.

Our time on this earth is (too) short...so it's best to enjoy each and every day we are blessed with...and smile at any adversities that cross our paths...as well as embrace those who are close to us.

Each of us has our own challenges and fears...and each of us has our own goals. If we share in our respective successes, we all benefit...and the positive energy flows!

Let us return to the 2008 Secret Spot Tilman Trek Reloaded and march forth toward the summit of Mera Peak. We really had a perfect day in terms of weather.

Dawa has been up and down Mera Peak tens of times...and he said THAT day was one of the finest he had ever experienced. He reminded me of how we were at Everest Base Camp in June 2007 and the weather went from ridiculously foggy...to sunny...in an instant! This was just before we were about to shoot an early SecretSpot.TV podcast. If you feel like virtually cold chillin' at South Side Everest Base Camp, I suggest you roll on over to SecretSpot.TV and watch Episode 1...to see what I'm referring to. We're doing a major re-vamp of SecretSpot.TV . It should be done by the Spring Equinox. Time will tell...as it most certainly always does!

Sometimes we are permitted access to great things and great places. This is especially true if we take our time...stop to smell the roses...and bring joy into the hearts of the other souls we come in contact with along the way. In this brave new world of instant gratification and racing about, it can be very easy to become self serving and twisted if we are constantly in a rush. Fools rush.

I made afternoon internet connections with the BGAN from Mera High Camp (5800m/19000ft)

Here's a little video of Caroline, Dana, Dawa and me NOT rushing on our summit day on Mera Peak, Nepal...while on the 2008 Secret Spot Tilman Trek. It was a good day. B^)

The view towards my tent from Caroline and Dana's tent at Mera High Camp

Snuggled in my Zulu 9 sleeping bag I am...after a stellar day! B^)

I'm at Mera High Camp (5800m/19000ft), contemplating sleep and a 1am wake up call. It's 6pm right now.

During the wee hours of Thursday, we are going to climb to Mera's summit and (hopefully) enjoy a spectacular sunrise!

3am start from Mera High Camp!

I'll upload another dispatch when we return from the summit...including images.

I've got the BGAN in my tent right now and I'm transmitting through the tent wall. All I'm doing is reaching my arm out of my warm slumber sack to turn it on and off. Big Thanx goes to Eric at the SatellitePhoneStore.com for hooking me up with this apparatus! It rules! =^)

Ascending from High Camp with Makalu (8400m/27500ft) and Chamlang (7200m/23600ft) dominating

I hope you are virtually enjoying climbing in the Himalayas with us via the dispatches at www.secretspoteverest.com and/or my blog!?

If you have not subscribed...you should...right now. I invite you. =^)

Until Soon
Phill =^)
